Bethel Covenant Community
Media Statement
The new leadership of Bethel totally abhors and condemns the abuse which is alleged to have occurred. No person could accept or condone this in any way—it is totally contrary to society’s beliefs and morals, and totally unacceptable in the wider community.
We are reforming Bethel and its corporate structures to make it more accountable and transparent—including bringing women in to the new governance structure and new systems to guard against these types of abuses.
We will do whatever is required to support and help the victims of this totally unacceptable behaviour—both current and past members of Bethel—including providing counselling services at no cost to those who have suffered.
We are beginning a process of healing and reconciliation—but that will not include the past leader. The person at the center of this alleged misconduct has resigned and will not have an ongoing role in Bethel.
We will cooperate with full transparency with any full and open investigation.
